The same strengths that help me succeed can create problems when they operate without balance, awareness, or restraint.

Sometimes the greatest progress begins when I stop examining everyone else and take an honest look at my own patterns.

#FallacyFriday
Don't assume a conclusion is false just because ONE argument for it contains a fallacy.
Avoid the fallacy fallacy or *argumentum ad logicam* if you are interested in the truth.
Spend energy on evaluating the evidence & engaging in constructive dialogue.
Beware the slippery slope
Just because one thing happens doesn't necessarily mean it will lead to a chain reaction of adverse events.
Focus on careful argument and avoid simplistic and fallacious reasoning.

The Myth of Perfectibility assumes that all problems can be eliminated and so risks implementing solutions that cause more problems than they solve or passing the point of diminishing returns. #FallacyFriday

A false dilemma fallaciously assumes that there are only two options when in fact there are many. E.g. “Are you going to major in business or are you going to be unable to find a job after you graduate?” #FallacyFriday

Time Discounting is the tendency to value a future good less than a present good. It can interfere with decision-making by causing us to value a short-term benefit, like scrolling social media instead of exercising, over a longer-term benefit, like being healthy. #FallacyFriday

Love usually takes the good and disregards the bad, even if the bad outweighs the good

🎙️ In lieu of #FlashbackFriday, I listened to #FallacyFriday w/ @MightyHeaton, @antonydavies & @JamesRHarrigan today! Fun, informative listen to better scrutinize common arguments and, just as importantly, to scrutinize *our own* thinking. 🧠

#FallacyFriday it is!
Have you ever been in a situation where you are only given two options? You might be on the same page with Miss Info as she is currently stuck with a false dichotomy.

(1/2) I'm bringing back an idea I had a while ago that I think is even more needed today. I'm calling it #FallacyFriday, where I'll post the name and description of a logical fallacy.
Kicking it off with Post hoc ergo propter hoc, which I mentioned in a tweet a couple weeks ago
A #FallacyFriday special: This is a fairly brazen way to try to cherry-pick numbers to make a point
https://t.co/oz3FlU18Yu
The “Ad Hoc” fallacy attempts to preserve a conviction against contrary evidence by inventing a way that the conviction could still be true. E.g. “The psychic was wrong about where the jewels were hidden, but that’s because doubt interfered with the energies.” #FallacyFriday

The “Ad Fidentia” fallacy attack’s an individual’s self-confidence, ignoring the support for the individual’s position. Example: “You say that aliens didn’t build the pyramids. How can you be so sure? Do you have a degree in Egyptology?” #FallacyFriday

“Equivocation” is using a term or phrase with more than one meaning in order to confuse or deceive. Example: “Your expectation that I show up for the meeting on time wasn’t realistic. After all, the reality is that I was 40 minutes late.” #FallacyFriday

It's time once again for our favorite day of the week, #FallacyFriday! This is the day we comb over the last week for examples of common fallacies. Today we'll start with #AppealToEmotion:
