"Why can't you pay me?"
"We don't know how many books you've sold."
"As far as I can tell, based on the statements I get, you LITERALLY sell entirely through Amazon, which lists sales daily. HOW CAN YOU NOT KNOW OUR SALES?"
@OPYRUS: "Why so mad?"
Well, as always, it comes down to:
-Yell at @opyrus, point out to people that they're a rebrand of #FastPencil, which has horrifying BBB scores and a trail of apparently-unfixed broken promises and apparently lots of other unpaid authors...
-Or be quiet and don't get paid.
I've got 25,000 followers, the majority of whom are writers.
Has ANYONE had a positive financial experience with @Opyrus / #Fastpencil?
Again, for those searching and thinking about self-publishing:
#InfinityPublishing has a horrible BBB record. Look it up.
They changed names to #Fastpencil, and gained the same BBB record. Look it up.
Now they're @Opyrus. Same management for 10 years. Claims to be new. Nope.
My friend said, "You know, @opyrus probably thinks you're trying to hurt them." I said, "I just want response. I had horrible experiences with #Fastpencil; Fastpencil is now #Opyrus; if the company won't respond to me under either name, I think people deserve to be warned away."
Basically: @Opyrus, what's up? Do you not know #Fastpencil's rep or actions? Do you have an explanation? Are you a new company, or the same company with a new skin?
So @opyrus says: "Hi, we're a shiny new company that helps authors. We took over #Fastpencil, that company with the horrible BBB ratings and the author-nonpayment problem."
Also from #Opyrus: "Your contact is the same rep who blocked you on social, and nothing's changed!"
I should write it on a stencil:
"Today, I wasn't paid by #Fastpencil";
And I don't know when I at last will
Finally, finally be paid by @Fastpencil.
I don't write this to gripe or whine.
I just need to either laugh or cry,
And today, laughing feels just fine.
Ah, and this might not be a bad time to pick up "There and NEVER, EVER BACK AGAIN", as I believe #FastPencil and I are about to part ways in an unquiet manner.
#Fastpencil: "We're sending you a [very small] check and a [presumably very angry] letter from our CEO! You better watch out!"
MY MAILBOX: *crickets*
I stay with #Fastpencil for a lot of reasons:
-I assume the best in people, and I think they're in trouble
-I own the IP, but would have to go in and completely rewrite the book
-I don't want to sue someone during the Coronavirus.
Good news!
@Fastpencil responded to my complaints!
By:
1. Telling me someone in management was going to call me.
2. Not calling me.
3. My rep blocked me on Facebook.

#FastPencil update:
Once again, tagging them on Facebook in a negative review appears to be the only way to get in touch with @Fastpencil, who accused me of 'slander' (one presumes they mean 'libel'.)
Just another fascinating day dealing with this 'publisher'.
When I say that @fastpencil owes me several quarters' worth of royalties, I base it on their own stated policies.
The sad thing is: Twitter's pretty essential for a publisher. But #fastpencil does so little on Twitter that I don't think they'll even SEE this.
If anyone is considering making the mistake of publishing with #fastpencil, contact me and I will explain in some detail what the past year has taught me.
If you know me, you know I'm very, very skeptical about online call-outs.
But I've had 5+ separate phone calls with #FastPencil.
They sincerely either have no idea how many books are selling, or what their own TOS is...
...or they don't care.
AVOID LIKE HELL.

@darklordjournal @fastpencil I'm sorry you're still going through hell with this publisher #fastpencil @fastpencil we see you being shitty. Give what your agreed to in your contract and at this juncture I think you owe refunds. PAY your authors their royalties!!!!
