For Fideists, there is a distinction between the pages of Scripture versus what God says. And within this idea, Karl Barth is to blame most of all. #Apologetics #ReasonsForFaith #Fideism #Kierkegaard #KarlBarth #Faith https://t.co/bNljRYC3PG

We now move to the historical #Fideism of those who would subscribe to the title of Fidist. Søren #Kierkegaard, Karl #Barth, and Donald #Bloesch are the main proponents of the apologetic method that is more to them than "just believe". #Apologetics https://t.co/H4XhCQq7qx

Another Proto-Fideist is Martin Luther. The point he makes is that alone reason falls short of faith. #Apologetics #ReasonsForFaith #Fideism #MartinLuther #Faith https://t.co/WUyXXcvslS

"What is more, whenever one tries to suppress doubt, there is #tyranny. #Fideism confuses judgement and belief. In fact, they are confused whenever one does not try to distinguish between them. One can only distinguish between them through doubt." #SimonWeil #Philosophy #Anarchy

If you're interested in how people and humanity can shift from supernatural to naturalistic worldviews you might find the "What's Real?" section of our #Sentientism conversations interesting. On YouTube there are chapters. On the Podcast it's a few mins in to each episode.

If we put explicit #fideism (faith) and #dogmatism to one side - pretty much everyone bases their beliefs on some sort of "evidence and reasoning". But we need the courage to consider whether we're applying *good* evidence and reasoning. Not just when it suits us, either!

The best response to poor quality methodological #naturalism (~using evidence & reason as the basis for credences) is to do better methodological naturalism. The best response to poor quality #fideism or #dogmatism is to give them up completely. They're all poor quality 🙂
