Stories from #EveryBarn (or Cow'us) tell of feeding the cattle (with hay stored in the mew) every day in the #FieldBarns of #Swaledale over winter. In the #PeakDistrict the farmer would have come each day with the hay (stored elsewhere). Maybe reflects shared tenancy of fields?
We came across many #FieldBarns during the weekend. These were quite small buildings, and only appear to be for wintering cattle. There did not seem to be any storage space for hay. This perhaps reflected the shorter winter season compared to #Cumbria and #Yorkshire #PeakDistrict
On our way to viewing some #FieldBarns we walked through the estate village of Edensor. A very planned village (not at all #vernacular) but interesting to see that over-arching style but still view a lot of individuality to each building in its size, height and detailing

They have stood for generations, some for centuries & form an important part of the iconic Yorkshire Dales landscape.
