Took on the #JellyBelly #FieryFiveChallenge Ok- these don't fuck around. Tbh, I expected some like chili flavored cinnamon jelly beans with the "tingly" sensation increasing a bit each time. I was wrong. In retrospect, I wish I would've went live or recorded this endeavor. Thinking it was going to be a piece of cake, I failed to document the challenge. Here is my account of the events that transpired a little more than a week ago: We started with myself and my two sons. My wife and daughter sat this one out. My wife separated the beans and arranged them from what she understood as the least spicy (sriracha) to most spicy (reaper). I believe she may have got the first and last beans mixed up. We popped those little beans in and bravely chewed away. Almost immediately we were met with a scorch in our mouths that'd make even the mightiest of dragons envious. I sat on the mediocre hotel sofa, writhing in pain as I tried to fend off the all-out war happening inside me. The pain wasn't subsiding. It was as though I had started a campfire on my tongue and nothing was staving off the angry flames. I can't speak as to how spicy each bean after the first was, because at this point, all I could feel was pain. I could taste the others, the jalapeno flavored jelly bean reeking of the essence of a freshly chopped jalapeno pepper, etc... it was no secret that I was struggling. What was meant to be a fun little game ended up with my youngest son quitting after the second bean, my oldest son completing the challenge then hurling up his dinner, and me shoving anything dairy (RIP gouda Babybel cheese) I could find in our hotel refrigerator to try to calm the storm that was raging in my mouth hole. There hasn't been much to put me in that sort of state when it comes to spicy food, but the #JellyBelly Fiery Five challenge definitely laced up it's gloves and brought on the hurt. I conquered the challenge, but at what cost? (truthfully, only about $10 or so from a local candy shop and a lot of pain and suffering) Do you think you can survive the Fiery Five challenge? Have you already done it? LMK!
