this is ridiculous bureaucratic intervention and red tape that might delay my patient's medication and has a high likelihood of causing an adverse event (exacerbation, antibody formation, etc). I will not stand down. #fightwme @DanSharpIBD @IBDMD @ibdtweets

I have previously taught on the conflict of interest of payers between their fiduciary responsibility to investors and providing appropriate medical care to the insured. In the absence of any checks, balances or regulation, you can see who usually wins in that conflict. #fightwme

This is the cost of one month of Rowasa enemas (5-ASA) for my pt with #UC. ⁦ Two issues w this: 1) denial of a long-existing, standard-of-care & clearly indicated therapy by ⁦⁦@BCBSIL⁩ 2) cost of this medicine! This is harming our patients physically and financially.

My patient with #UC is failing high dose oral prednisone and 3 loading doses of vedolizumab. We planned to admit her to the hospital for IV asteroids and escalation of therapy and @BCBSIL called to tell us she has to fail IV steroids as an outpatient first. What? No. #fightwme

@MulierCare Thanks! I'm raising awareness about the financially-driven decision making and incredibly poor service. I tweet to expose and when there is a broader point to be made. If I tweeted every time we had a claim denial, I would be tweeting 5 or more times every single day. #fightwme

@HeartOTXHeartMD I have done the same in inflammatory bowel disease w success (definitely check out #fightwme and #fightwus), but say too that it is terrible that we need to resort to Twitter to get payers to respond. I argue for regulation re: timeliness of responding and appeal processes.

Unacceptable: intentional barriers & delays by Coventry (@Aetna). For my patient whose colon was saved with cyclosporine. We are trying to get her vedolizumab (Entyvio) as maintenance SINCE NOV 27. Does “urgent” really mean 1-2 weeks? Read my PharmD’s note below... #fightwme

Actually my PharmD just reminded me- we actually gave her a free infusion here after 10 days bc I was so worried about this risk. Then it took two more weeks to get insurance approval. This is for her MAINTENANCE therapy. Egregious. #fightwme

Add this to our frustrations w payers: @Aetna mistakenly emailed 115 of my pts a letter saying that I am no longer in network. They were looking at the wrong David Rubin! It took a smart pt of mine and then our team weeks to get them to admit their error. Really? #fightwme
