Around 2014, I landed my first Agora division as a client.
They rarely hired freelancers as they have plenty of media buyers and affiliates.
But I had a unique knack for blowing up Google display campaigns in #finpub and #survival
I helped them recover a Google account that was banned and then executed one of my campaigns from 0-100 sales a day.
I thought I was hot stuff.
That was one of my biggest achievements at the time.
And then my friend…
Same guy…
Head of the company says “This is a good start, how do you take this to 1,000 sales a day though?”
My gut dropped.
All pride just evaporated.
But I love a challenge.
By the way, this was just a simple keyword targeted Google display campaign. Nothing fancy, just the basics.
So I go back to my white board for a weekend and I start planning out how I would basically take over the Internet with ads.

I pulled it off.
Almost.
800 sales a day, not 1,000. But it put me on the map, and I went from freelancer to W2 employee.
I say all of this because this is what it takes to re-build Agora. This is the level of copywriting and media buying it requires to compete with them.
Of which I am not!
I am not trying to re-build in FinPub, no way, also too hot with SEC/FTC right now.
My niche is biz opp.
Back to the main story…
If you’re going to re-build Agora today you need not one, but at least three 7-figure paid newsletters.
AND THEN you can start building out the octopus structure I wrote about in my last post.
Where you have a mothership that takes care of admin functions like finance, legal, HR, and IT for all the arms of the company.
Until you have 2 successful newsletters, you’re not really a publishing company you’re more of an education company with just 1 newsletter.
But if you pull it off with 1, 2, 3 different newsletters, now you’ve got a track record that demands attention, respect, and you’re a publisher.
Soooo…
That’s my new 5 year plan 😱
But first, I need to get my first. I’m switching Happily Unemployed from a free newsletter to paid.
Copying the Agora funnel.
Dusting off my Agora Big Black Book, and getting to work. I’ve got an advertorial and VSL ready.
And I’ve been brushing up on my Taboola skills with a campaign for my solar client.
Why am I tackling this?
Am I sick in the head? Deluded? Prideful?
Nah, my land is paid off, I’m debt free, cars paid off, and I make more than I need.
I’m basically in functional retirement, and have the time, skills, and resources to try.
I figure I’ve got another 30-40yrs to live, and need to pass the time with something…
Why not take a run at it?
What better ideas are there for a retired media buyer who loves copywriting?

If I get at least 50 people saying yes share it, then I’ll write up everything he told me as best as I can remember it.
