Top Tweets for #FinalTweets
#FinalTweets - ECR has been a pleasant surprise through the first two races of the season. Rossi making it into the fast 6 at thermal after his practice issues showed the team has good pace. Rasmussen as well for a rookie has shown glimpses but also has kept his car in one piece.
Right now Rossi is ahead of ScottyMac and Marcus Ericsson in the points, which probably most including myself would not have predicted.

#FinalTweets The Thermal Dilemma - Indycar has a track that is willing to pay its sanctioning fee. ✅
Those are few and far between these days.
Is that enough however for a track, any track, to make the cut? (Of course beyond FIA safety standards).
There have been worse races on the calendar over the years, there’s no doubt about that. There were some memorable passing moments, of which many tracks on the calendar can’t claim.
So I don’t think this is actually a “race track” problem. The entire reason why everyone is up in arms is because the philosophy around this even has been a complete slap in the face to Indycar fans.
For instance: an all star event that literally did not allow fans in attendance. All star idea good. ✅ Execution terrible.
Obviously that’s going to leave a bad taste in everyone’s mouth, whether or not people were really going to attend.
This year, you put up grandstands for maybe 200 people. Ticket prices are $400 to get in the door. The slap continues.
This is the problem. Indycar took the money, hard to blame them, but as always taking the fans for granted. And that is the ultimate issue here.
A sport and entity that doesn’t seem to understand who the customer is. Thermal is literally a microcosm of that philosophy. It’s not the race track.

#FinalTweets - it’s only through two races but what sticks out is the highest Penske driver is 7th (Newgarden) which of course we don’t expect that to stay but for drivers expecting to compete for the championship they have immediately started in a giant hole.

#FinalTweets St. Pete | Prema Debut
Look, it's pretty hard to judge ANYTHING after one race, let alone a street race, let alone the season opener. That being said, I would classify PREMA Racings debut as respectable. They had some teething issues that unfortunately with limited testing you have to go through during a race weekend.
Both drivers Callum Ilott and Robert Schwartzman finished on the lead lap and with a clean car (19th and 20th).
Thermal will be a more clear showing of their speed and the gap they have to make up given the tracks smoothness and long sweeping corners, where the last 2-3% makes all the difference on the timesheets.
It might be the most obvious statement, but Indianapolis is going to be an eye opener for the team. Without any testing there or previous setup sheets, they gotta hope that the April session does not get rained out and that they dont have any mechanical gremlins.
If you recall in 2019 Pato O'ward, Max Chilton and Fernando Alonso (Carlin prepared car) did not qualify for the Indy500. And the problem with April is the conditions are nothing like they are in late May.

#FinalTweets St. Pete | You gotta walk away from St. Pete going "The revamped Chip Ganassi Racing squad is going to be even harder to beat this year." And that includes Michael Shank Racing. Between the 5 cars, four of them had the field covered either on speed or on strategy.
Marcus Armstrong, had it not been for a left rear issue, could have won the race or been on the podium at minimum. FRO as always is a solid qualifier and was more consistent in the race (through one race I get it).
And then Palou and Dixon, again, didnt matter where they started, they mastered the task at hand. And this race was about tire management. As soon as it turned into a tire management race, I said this was Scott Dixon's to lose and I am betting had he had a radio it would have given him the extra 5% to know when to push against Palou and Newgarden.

#FinalTweets St. Pete | The faces of Indycar -
If you were FOX, you probably had a roller coaster of emotions given that you spent all February advertising three unknowns to a national media audience and then to see Pato qualify 23rd, Newgarden 10th and reigning champ Alex Palou in 8th.
But the faces of Indycar delivered in the end. Alex Palou made his way to the front while Josef Newgarden chased. Pato, despite having an early tire issue managed to come home 11th a championship saving effort in all honesty. The storyline was connected and Fox was able to pull the thread all the way through to victory lane.
This is how you create name recognition but to build household names @DHLUS needs to create its own national campaign with Palou. @PPG @ToshibaUSA with Newgarden and @MissionFoodsUS @ArrowGlobal to build off the momentum. Get your agencies going!
#FinalTweets St. Pete | FOX - OK the biggest story this weekend was the switch from NBC to FOX. Overall, you can see the potential. The graphics are fresh and clear. The intent (grid walk, pointers, static cams) is there. And even a starting grid! They focused on the three stars in the offseason, they started the broadcast with the three stars and were rewarded with 2/3 fighting for the win.
Now it comes down to execution, which I’ll have a separate thread on ideas for improvement.
One completely random side note, I went into a bar on Friday night, a bar that no way would ever have Indycar on TV and they were actually showing FS1 and Indycar Friday practice. You never would get that with Peacock (the fringe watcher). Also had two people ask me if “I watched the big Indy race?” (That’s also how it’s referred to by people who don’t watch racing) which showed the promos worked for at least St Pete.
Ratings come out today. 1.5M would be a huge win. 1.2M would be nice but somewhat disappointing. Anything less than 1.2M would be bad.

#FinalTweets Indycar - On one hand, #indycar put on one of the best shows of the year at Milwaukee, returning after a hiatus to the historic mile. Positive.
Leading up to the race, however Indycar CEO Mark Miles, whether it was taken out of context or not, laid some level of blame on Pato O'Wards popularity as to a reason why Indycar was unable to land a race in Mexico City. Negative.
This is however a microcosm of #INDYCAR . No one knows what the product is and what its trying to become. There is no clear direction. Is #Indycar a multi manufacture series that has international events and new chassis driving innovation? Or is Indycar an American series focused in the midwest with 90% of the revenue being generated via the #indy500?
The fact that there was blame anywhere other than Indycar themselves ie "we as a series are not popular, or we as a series don't have the revenue or we as a series could not get a deal done that met our needs" is just a prime example with the problem that the current leadership faces.

#FinalTweets Pato and McLaren - In our post Portland #finaltweet we slightly ripped into McLaren. Nothing crazy but they simply werent performing to expectations.
After Milwaukee, Pato's performance in Race 1 showed that McLaren should easily be a championship content had situations like race 2 not happen. That has been the crux of the issue of getting McLaren fully into the championship fight: Can they be consistent enough to compete race in race out at the same page as Ganassi and Penske.
Either way, we are going to leave 2024 with another "miss" with the McLaren group. Missed out on Indy and missed out on the championship. Would be a nice way to build momentum into 2025 if Pato can close out the year (or Rossi) in victory lane at Nashville.

#FinalTweets The Championship - Gotta admit, no way did I expect Alex Palou to not sew up the championship this past weekend, and even more so, did not expect at one point on Sunday, for Will Power to be actually leading the championship and then on top of that, to Alex Palou to still have a 33 point lead going into the season finale in Nashville.
Wow. Wild ride.
At the end of the day, having a championship fight come down to the final race of the season, is always a good thing for the series. It will be an uphill battle for Will Power, but should be very easy to follow from a viewer and fan perspective.
Going to go with my gut and my preseason prediction that Alex Palou comes home as the 2024 #indycar champion but pleasantly surprised how close it will end up.

#FinalTweets Milwaukee - The first one here has to go the the Indycar fans and the Milwaukee area residents who showed up on back to back days for the return to the historic Milwaukee Mile.
I’m not ignorant to the fact that grandstands in turn 1 and turn 4 were closed, but given the scheduling of the event on Labor Day and a truck race just happened a week prior, the turnout was probably a best case scenario.
And as result those that came were treated to picture perfect weather (was 100 degrees + mid week) and arguably the best race(s) of the season so far with 95% of our polled fans calling race 1 Great/Good.
Add a few support series, throw in a concert, offer up camping for free, and maybe build a temporary go-kart track to build on the first year.
Either way, it’s clear that the racing was great and it showcased what Indycar should be wherever it goes.

#FinalTweets McLaren - What's up with McLaren? For the first half of the season, they collectively looked ready to be in the mix with Ganassi and Penske for the championship fight.
Tough to judge Nolan Siegel but he is part of the team now and has to be put into consideration. Portland saw Pato O'ward, one of the best qualifiers in the series, start nearly in the back of the pack. The best finish was Alexander Rossi in 12th.
At Gateway Pato DNF'ed as sorta did Rossi. Siegel finished a team best 7th. Toronto the team best finish was Theo Pourchaire in 14th.
Now if you made it this far in the tweet, congrats. Im not saying McLaren has been awful/bad, but those are not results that you expect if they are in the same conversation as a Penske/Ganassi.
For Pato, we just expect him specifically to be up front race in, race out. Outside of of race 1 at Iowa, the second half of the season for him has been a disaster.

#finaltweets Toby Sowery- It’s not often we would start our final tweets with the guy who finishes 17th but Toby Sowery has been ultra impressive in his three ad hoc starts with Dale Coyne racing.
A 13th at Mid Ohio, 15th at Toronto and 17th last weekend at Portland should have him on the radars of all the teams looking at openings in their roster for 2024.
Let’s not forget that Dale Coyne was the one who gave Alex Palou his Starr and ride in #indycar who will likely be a three time champion.
Also memo to Dale Coyne: Do what you gotta do to sign this kid.

#FinalTweets Sting Ray Robb - There's no doubt that Sting Ray has been a bit of a punching bag throughout his #indycar tenure, but he deserves to be recognized when he performs. And at Gateway, he had his career best finish coming home in 9th, finishing 3 spots ahead of his teammate.
This comes a race removed after ending upside down and in the hospital. So shout out to Sting Ray, its' good to see improvement from the young American.

#FinalTweets Linus Lundqvist - The long break proved to be beneficial to the CGR rookie as Linus scored his second career podium and came at a much needed time in the season.
I'm not gonna try and pretend to know what Ganassi's plans are this off season, as i imagine a lot will be dependent on if/when a charter is agreed to. However we do now know that there is a technical alliance with Shank which will likely mix up the driver lineup (beyond Palou and Dixon).
Linus is clearly a high talent driver in #indycar that hasnt been able to put it all together quite yet at Ganassi.
Finishing the season strong will help secure himself a seat.

#FinalTweets The Championship - What probably should be getting more conversation is the fact that for most of the race Colton Herta was on the verge of cutting into Alex Palous championship lead again. At various points he was 7-8 spots ahead and late In the race Herta was 3rd while Palou was 8th.
How did it finish? Herta losing points to Palou. Will power DNF and Scott Dixon missed a pit strategy for the first time ever.
Sadly for us, Portland will likely seal the deal with Palou a heavy favorite to win.

#FinalTweets Josef Newgarden - Since I’m here at the home of JN (Nashville) might as well start with him. Honestly, I’m glad to see him come back to life on social media and poke a bit after his win on Saturday. I actually think he might be the perfect personality for fans to either love or hate, and I want him to embrace both. Go out there and win, and then rub it in. And challenge everyone else to beat him especially on the ovals. Own it. And I’m sure Josef can have fun when doing it.
I want to hear him say “Yea I’m here to win. Don’t like it? Pass me.”
The guy just won back to back Indy500’s and will be going for three in a row in 2025. Whether he does the above or not fans are gonna hate on him. So embrace it, roll with it, have fun with it.
And when ur done, grab a chicken samich at Hattie B’s.

#FinalTweets The #51 car - It has been the carousel of the #indycar season. No fewer than six drivers have taken the wheel of the 51 machine, which is just insane and we still have five more races to go!
I know the DCR shop is running on small budgets and drivers that can bring some level of financing, but you gotta feel bad for the team around this car. Every weekend is essentially a test session.
Colin Braun finished 20th at St. Pete
Nolan Siegel finished 20th at Long Beach
Luca Ghiotto finished a best place of 21st at Barber
Tristan Vautier finished 18th in Detroit
Toby Sowery has finished 13th and 15th, which are pretty solid efforts all things considered
Katherine Legg finally finished 17th in Iowa
Let's just hope for 2025, that DCR can find 2 drivers that are behind the wheel all year round and for that, those are the #FinalTweets.

#FinalTweets Jack Harvey - Look. It’s been a tough year for Jack, not gonna sugar coat it. A season highlight to date at Barber finishing 13th may end up being the top moment for the #18 car in the Dale Coyne stable.
But there were many incidents through a weekend where JH was just at the wrong place at the wrong time, which either killed his momentum or killed his race.
The most recent set back has been his back injury which you could tell was making his life miserable in the cockpit.
Jack does bring a lot of experience and stability to a team like Dale Coyne, which needs the feedback in order to get better (putting a rookie in the seat will have glimpses but no baseline to provide proper feedback).
At the end of the day let’s hope he can get healed and back out there for the remainder of the season.

#FinalTweets David Malukas - To an extent, Malukas is really just getting his season started. Just for a completely different team than where he was supposed to start.
From a qualifying perspective, he has hit the ground running with MSR starting no worse than 14th in his five races.
Toronto was his best race result though coming home 6th where the entire weekend he looked back where he left off at Coyne.
You gotta look at the decision to switch out Blomqvist with Malukas and hard to argue with the results so far.
