First gen college student, small town, blue collar. High school counselor- not smart enough for college. They were wrong. BS Biology, Masters and PhD in Special Education, tenured professor. Don't listen to the naysayers. They speak from deep bias. #FirstGenerationChat

All too often folks assume firstgen students are coming from a deficit model. In fact, oftentimes the challenge firsgen student have overcome to get to college show they are have DEEP and powerful skills are grit, persistence, tenacity, and a growth mindset #FirstGenerationChat
