Ring in the new with flamingos,
as pretty as can be
together we'll make rainbows;
sunsets for all to see.

Have folks reading the #FlamingoBook considered reading #AlgorithmsofOppression by Dr. Safiya Noble instead?
These ~1yo screenshots might help see why.

@nathanmarz Recently read similar law in #FlamingoBook.
Hyrum's (@hyrumwright) Law: with a sufficient number of users of an API, it does not matter what you promise in the contract: all observable behaviors of your system will be depended on by somebody.
@mihaimaruseac The <done right> part is the difficult bit, for large codebases. Fairly easy for small projects.
@TitusWinters has goes into lots of details in his talks (I believe “Live at Head”) and the #FlamingoBook with @hyrumwright & co.
Highly recommend both the book and talks for details.

“Software Engineering at Google” by @TitusWinters @hyrumwright & Tom Manshreck.
I'm hoping more people will learn something from it, now. Highly recommended read.
@apenwarr @hyrumwright "You can choose when to discover the incompatibilities"
I think that's it right there. And what is so often overlooked is that choice in engineering is costly. (I was surprised that most #FlamingoBook chapters independently pointed out that choice fights against scaling.)
Finished reading 'Software Engineering at Google' by @TitusWinters , Tom Manshreck and @hyrumwright . Interesting reading material 👍.
The book is freely available ⬇️ or
you can purchase it 💰or
you can receive it as a gift 🎁 😀

I call this the "Reverse Beyoncé Rule", where the Beyoncé Rule is defined by @TitusWinters as “If you liked it, you should have put a CI test on it” 😄

@michaelhilton This is a reason I'm glad we worked to make the #FlamingoBook open access. As an "industry" text, the price isn't as high as a textbook, but we felt the message was more accessible to students and practitioners alike if it was electronically available for free.
@sluongng Sure, but you can’t read a book that’s not been written. Yes, agree w #flamingobook being a good one, as well as FB opensource & platforms being impressive.
This book is admittedly not a engineering deep dive, but more of an engineering strategy overview from a birds-eye view.
ICYMI: the @DevInterrupted podcast gave us the opportunity to learn from @Google's top engineers last week as @hyrumwright & @TitusWinters joined us to share their lessons learned from programming at Google & talk about #FlamingoBook 📚

It's not a coincidence that @Google is such a successful company.
These are the “three pillars” of social skills, mentioned in the #FlamingoBook.
If you can make your team members root their actions on such principles, I bet you can go really far.

Just finished reading #FlamingoBook. It was useful and filled in some gaps that I had.
One thing it didn't cover is the topic of code generation (scripts that generate c++ or other language sources).
Can you mention what's the policy there?
@TitusWinters @hyrumwright
This is excellent news! I enjoyed reading the #flamingobook and definitely recommend it if you want to learn more about software practices in large-scale environments. Some chapters are golden and can be applied to any software project.
