The view from the first-floor windows of Ginnerโs house at 61 #HampsteadHighStreet. It shows the decorations put up in the street opposite, #FlaskWalk, for the coronation of George VI on 12 May 1937.

Flask Walk, c.1950. #FlaskWalk was still a through route from #HampsteadHighStreet, as there is still a roadway, albeit a very narrow one!
Fascinating to look at the shops back then, a pharmacy, fish & chip shop, shoe repair shop, a butchers & cookware shop.

The entrance to #FlaskWalk from #HampsteadHighStreet in 1903. A once weatherboarded structure, then refaced in a rudimentary stucco, bridges the buildings either side to provide a covered entranceway.
This building reputedly collapsed in 1911, such a loss!

A scene in 1905, Flask Walk was considered a very working class part of Hampstead in this era.
The clues are there; the Wells and Campden Bathhouse seen on the right, providing the poor of Hampstead, somewhere to bathe and launder.

Flask Walk was originally known as Lower Flask Tavern Walk, as it connected Well Walk, site of the Chalybeate Well & centre of spa entertainments in the early 18th century, with Lower Flask Tavern where well water could be purchased by the flask!

You can spend a whole morning wandering round & discover such oddities as an old Parish jail, the Admiral's House where the owner used to fire a canon from the roof to celebrate naval victories (inspiration for Admiral Boom, 'Mary Poppins')

At this time Flask Walk had a covered entranceway, similar to that of Perrinโs Court.
