Doug, who became homeless six months ago, has one question. "Why?" He says officers serving the eviction notice said it was due to crime. "I want a better reason. Just saying there's crime don't do it for me cause I'm not involved in none of that." #FolkReporter

@IntelligencerWV Marshall also discussed the amount of shelter beds in Wheeling, which number less than 100 with over 250 individuals likely experiencing homelessness. The only low-barrier shelter in Wheeling, the Winter Freeze, operates from Dec 15 to Mar 15. #FolkReporter
@IntelligencerWV Kate Marshall, Facilitator of the House of Hagar, spoke about a potential ban. "A person is put into a positon where they cannot follow the law no matter what they do. If we do that, we are criminalizing poverty and we're criminalizing homelessness." #FolkReporter
Alongside the eviction, city manager Herron told @IntelligencerWV he expected Wheeling's council to consider a ban on urban camping. Councilors Seidler and Sklavounakis expressed support. It is expected to be proposed October 17. #FolkReporter
Four Wheeling police officers, alongside the city's homeless liaison Melissa Adams, served the eviction. Residents were not told where they can go. Any items left on October 13 at 3:00 p.m. will likely be thrown away. #FolkReporter
On September 29, city manager Robert Herron ordered the eviction of a camp on a hillside in East Wheeling. City officials directed people to move here when they closed down smaller camps throughout the city. The eviction will take effect this Friday. #FolkReporter
