And just like the #GMO Golden Rice neither the GMO Banana is for free :) Blindness due to lack of vitamin A is rooted in poverty GMO like Golden Rice and @BillGates Bananas are rooted in a dream of #FoodMonopoly and more wealth to the wealthiest 🤔

This GMO banana is a project of the Gates Foundation, which is always looking for technological fixes (with patents) rather than enhancing natural solutions--in this case, real food. Vitamin A from plants isn't even the kind that humans can well absorb/use. Retinol is the form we need--and this is only available in animal foods. Something we might expect the WashPost nutrition columnist to know? More on Vitamin A from the website of @zoeharcombe: --Plant sources of vitamin A come in the form of carotene, which requires conversion within the body into retinol; --Even with Beta-carotene, the carotene most easily converted into retinol, there is substantial loss of nutrition, such that the conversion ratio is at best 6:1 (“The accepted 6:1 equivalency of beta-carotene to preformed vitamin A must be challenged and re-examined in the context of dietary plants”); (Ref 5) --Not every person is capable of converting carotene to retinol “Diabetics and those with poor thyroid function cannot make the conversion. Children make the conversion very poorly and infants not at all” (Ref 6) and --Carotenes are converted by the action of bile salts and very little bile reaches the intestine when a meal is low in fat. Our grandparents put butter on their vegetables for good reason. We can confidently assert, therefore, that animal foods generally, and liver particularly, are the best sources of vitamin A.

@SimmonsBart It's not about climate it's all about profit from UPF which soon will be the only food available for normal income families #foodmonopoly
