I’m in a part of town where people have lots of wealth, but little knowledge of science. This was evident by a heated argument about plastic bags in the dollar store. This lack of knowledge along with privilege is a big problem that needs tackling.

On hot days like this, bridges sag a bit. The metal expands with the heat. Sometimes bridges dip down a few feet. Engineers account for this in their designs. But this is why we need to attend to the infrastructure. Materials science is real.
