I don’t know this for sure, but recognizing that house from the neighborhoods near me, and having been inside several of these homes for clients, I’m fairly confident that there was a good amount of adaptation of these kits in the geometry left up to the discretion of the on-site builders. I think this contextual adaptation is one of the biggest differences. These homes people love were typically built by the single owner hiring a contractor. The tract, houses, and Levitt towns, and what filled up the San Fernando Valley, these were built all at once, without input from a given owner. Very different process, very different results.
