So to regain a sense of control and power, they will typically deploy a range of tactical defense mechanisms: • Blame-Shifting and Scapegoating • They will intensely rewrite the narrative, painting themselves as the ultimate victim and the rejector as a cruel villain. • Gaslighting: They may try to alter the public perception of the event, claiming it "never happened that way" or that their failure was actually a planned success. • Smear Campaigns - They will attempt to ruin the reputation of anyone who rejected them, exposed threir mask or caused them public humiliation. • They will put the person down, diminish them personally or try to make others look foolish to elevate themselves.
