Remembering Jean Lucienbonnet, born #OnThisDay in 1923, killed in a #FormulaJunior race at Enna, Sicily, aged 39, in ’62. #AnorakFact: he entered just one #F1 GP, at Monaco, in ’59, unsurprisingly failing to qualify a Cooper T45 #F2 car (pic) against the works F1 machines.

Remembering Dennis Taylor, born in south-east London #OnThisDay in 1921. A pub landlord, 6’ 2” (1m 88cm) tall, he entered one #F1 GP, Aintree ’59, but DNQ’d his privateer Lotus 12 #F2 car. He was killed in a #FormulaJunior race at Monaco in ’62, at 40, after running into a tree.
More impressive even than beating #F1 aces Rodríguez & Moss at Mosport was that in his teens Ryan had been a downhill skier rather than a racing driver. But a promising if far too brief racing career was snuffed out in a #FormulaJunior race at Reims in ’62. He was just 22. (2/2)

So after a truly disastrous qualifying yesterday where I couldn’t get a clear lap we battled through the field to get our first Formula Junior trophy with a last lap pass for third in class 😀
Race 2 today so let’s see if we can do even better.

Qualified P11 out of 24 cars so I’ll take that as still learning the car, have to say she really is beautiful to drive, mad to think this little car has been racing for over 60 years.
