Speaking of #EsotericBuddhism in #Beijing, I cannot overlook another renowned attraction. In a previous tweet, I shared my admiration for the #BiyunTemple 碧云寺 in picturesque #FragrantHills 香山. It is fascinating how, regardless of the mountain path I choose, I always find myself encountering the captivating "Liuli Wanshou Pagoda" #琉璃万寿塔.
First, it is worth noting that #BuddhistPagodas are characterized by an ODD number of tiers, ranging from five, seven, and even nine tiers—nine tiers being particularly grand in ancient times. Although this pagoda gracefully boasts seven tiers, its exquisite beauty lies in its entirety, meticulously crafted from vibrant colored #glaze.☺️ Legend has it that during the #INVASION of the Eight-Nation Alliance 八国联军侵华 over a century ago, when this area was engulfed in flames, the pagoda, adorned in its protective colored glaze, miraculously remained unscathed. Perchance, it was the benevolence of enlightened #Bodhisattvas.
And, the pagoda's seven tiers are adorned with wind chimes. As the mountain breeze blows, all the chimes resonate together, creating a sacred melody reminiscent of Buddhist chants. In this moment, I find myself establishing a profound spiritual connection, transcending the boundaries of the physical world.
