La acción transcurre en Londres en 1912. En una fría y lluviosa noche el excéntrico, misógino y clasista estudioso de la fonética Henry Higgins (Rex Harrison) conoce, al salir de la ópera del mítico Covent Garden, a Eliza Doolittle (Audrey Hepburn), una harapienta y ordinaria vendedora de violetas. El lenguaje tan vulgar de la florista despierta tanto su interés que hace una apuesta bastante arriesgada con su amigo el coronel Pickering (#WilfridHydeWhite): se compromete a enseñarle a hablar correctamente el inglés y a hacerla pasar por una dama de la alta sociedad en un plazo de seis meses. Esta apuesta curiosa llevará a los espectadores a situaciones y escenarios mágicos que permanecerán imborrables en sus retinas una vez hayan acabado de ver la película. El filme está lleno de momentos inolvidables como la asistencia y presentación en la alta sociedad de Eliza en Ascott, el baile en la embajada en honor de la reina de Transilvania y, sobre todo, el discurso inolvidable de Alfred Doolitlle (#StanleyHolloway), padre de la protagonista, sobre los prejuicios y ataduras de la mediana y alta burguesía respecto a los de su clase. Delicada, preciosa y vitalista desde su título, «My Fair Lady» obtuvo un éxito enorme de crítica y público en el momento de su estreno. Los reconocimientos en forma de premios importantes, entre ellos ocho #PremiosÓscar (de doce nominaciones) y tres Premios #GlobosDeOro, no tardaron en llegar. Aunque resulta sorprendente que Audrey Hepburn no estuviera entre las cinco candidatas al premio a mejor actriz. Viendo su extraordinaria interpretación se puede comprobar que esta omisión es una de las grandes injusticias que se han producido en toda la historia de estos galardones. «My Fair Lady» se estrenó en #Broadway en 1956 con un éxito grandísimo. #JulieAndrews fue la primera opción que barajó #WarnerBros para interpretar a Eliza Doolittle. La actriz británica ya había interpretado el papel en Broadway junto a Rex Harrison durante 2717 funciones. El estudio pagó 5 000 000 dólares por hacerse con los derechos del musical y decidió que era muy arriesgado contratar a una actriz desconocida. #JackWarner, cofundador y presidente de los estudios, se vio forzado a contratar a Rex Harrison tras las negativas de #CaryGrant, #RockHudson o #MichaelRedgrave. #MarniDixon dobló a Audrey Hepburn en todas las canciones. La cantante era la voz fantasma de otros rostros conocidos en musicales como #DeborahKerr en #ElReyYYo (1956) y #NatalieWood en #WestSideStory (1961). La columnista de cotilleos #HeddaHopper escribió que «con Marni Nixon cantando, Audrey Hepburn ofrece solo la mitad de la actuación». A lo que Jack Warner respondió: «No sé a qué se debe tanto alboroto si lo hemos estado haciendo durante años. Incluso doblamos los ladridos de Rin Tin Tin». A este respecto, Audrey Hepburn registró todas las canciones, ya que trabajó muy duro con #AndréPrevin (compositor, pianista y director de orquesta que fue el segundo marido de #MiaFarrow). Lo que hizo Marni Nixon fue grabar sobre la interpretación que hizo Audrey Hepburn en las tres o cuatro canciones más importantes porque son las más operísticas.
