The UK has a particularly dreadful record of convicting caregivers of harming those in their care when in fact the harm by them was ONLY in the minds of shameless medical experts.
The following caregivers were wrongly convicted (or wrongly accused/charged) by our great British justice system. Not just the years spent in prison and/or under suspicion that were lost. Entire lives were ruined and in some cases destroyed (the case of Sally Clark is unbearably tragic).
Angela Gay, adoptive mother, wrongly convicted
Ian Gay, adoptive father, wrongly convicted
Suzanne Holdsworth, babysitter, wrongly convicted
Patricia Bass, daughter, wrongly convicted
David Sellu, doctor, wrongly convicted
Hadiza Bawa-Garba, doctor, wrongly convicted
Stephen Niland, father, wrongly convicted
Angela Cannings, mother, wrongly convicted
Donna Anthony, mother, wrongly convicted
Jacqueline Fletcher, mother, wrongly convicted
Julie Ferris, mother, wrongly convicted
Kimberley Hainey, mother, wrongly convicted
Laura Langley, mother, wrongly charged
Sally Clark, mother, wrongly convicted
Trupti Patel, mother, wrongly charged
Sheila Bowler, neice, wrongly convicted
Amanda Jenkinson, nurse, wrongly convicted
Jessie McTavish, nurse, wrongly convicted
Rebecca Leighton, nurse, wrongly accused
There are almost certainly others who should be on this list but I have not come across their cases.
And there are caregivers who are currently in prison having very likely been wrongly convicted:

Beverley Allitt, nurse
Victorino Chua, nurse
Ben Geen, nurse
Lucy Letby, nurse
Colin Campbell (formerly Norris), nurse
The convictions of the above seven relied on the testimony of overzealous, unscrupulous, fanatical doctors acting as expert witnesses.
Medicine is such that doctors can make things up. Doctors are such that laypeople (jurors) trust them.
Any wrongful conviction is awful. However, those of caregivers who were just trying to look after those in their care but instead got accused of harming them are particularly diabolical.
Dame Vera, please do something. And please show us that you are taking your job seriously. Your rather flippant message above about a staff day and everyone coming into the office I for one found insulting.
Please think of the people wrongly in prison whose first step to freedom is in your hands. Their lives are ruined but you can help make those lives less awful. In fact that is what you are now being paid to do.

Good luck to #ColinNorris today, he was convicted in 2008 of four murders that did not happen .
The Court of Appeal will hopefully admit this was a cruel police, CPS and judicial fuck-up, and release this innocent man

Yes, if all she is complaining of is lack of knowledge of suspicions of others, then this is the very definition of confirmation bias #freethenurses
@LucyLetbyTrials @thetrialpod She's allowed the opinions of others to influence her conclusions. That's confirmation bias. An independent expert opinion should never include the opinions or conclusions of others, only the raw data.

This is indeed so important!!! Deliberately misleading the jury…. This must be brought to account!!! It’s not OK that this happened in a British Court Of Law #freethenurses
This was in my blog but it’s so important I want to make sure it’s not missed.
Dr Evans told the jury injecting air down the NG tube causing a collapse was a “clinically proven mechanism”. He has since admitted that he’s never heard of it and is unaware of any published papers on it.
Telling the jury a medical condition you’ve never heard of before is clinically proven is a materially false statement. There’s no way around it.
@danwootton Don’t forget the other nurses, convicted on the same weak evidence: Chua, Norris, Geen and Allitt. Insulin poisoning is the ‘evidence’ in every case.#freethenurses

If the current system takes a major hit that will be for the best in the long run. British justice can recover, but it must learn and adapt.#freethenurses
