🌍 Day 2 at #GIMAC41: Beyond Symbolism – The Role of CSOs in Implementing the AU Convention on Ending Violence Against Women
During today’s session, Nancy delivered a powerful call to action: The AU CEVAWG must be more than just symbolic.
Ending violence against women and girls (VAWG) and modern-day slavery requires dismantling the patriarchal systems that fuel them.
🔹 We cannot limit our efforts to addressing individual acts of violence—we must tackle the root causes: power imbalances, economic exploitation, and weak governance.
🔹 True justice demands reparations—acknowledging both historical and ongoing harms while ensuring systemic change.
🔹 The AU CEVAWG must serve as a framework for transformative justice, centering the leadership of adolescent girls and young womxn in decision-making spaces.

🚨 SRHR & Transitional Justice: Breaking the Chains of Colonial Control 🚨
Live today from #GIMAC41, we were deep in discussion on the intersectional realities of young women in Africa.
One pressing issue? The lack of recognition of SRHR violations within transitional justice.
Forced reproduction during slavery was a deliberate strategy to increase the number of enslaved people a tool of oppression and economic exploitation.
Today, restrictive laws on abortion and contraception continue this legacy, keeping women in cycles of forced reproduction under the guise of tradition and morality.
But let’s call it what it is state control over women’s bodies for economic gain.
🔹 Reproductive oppression must be acknowledged as a transitional justice issue.
🔹 African women deserve full autonomy not as a privilege, but as a fundamental right.
🔹 Decolonization means dismantling policies that control our bodies and labor.
We stand with feminist voices across Africa in rejecting these colonial and capitalist remnants. SRHR is justice.
