Years of experimentation, has indicated that springtails like to congregate under fallen Laurel leaves (and others of course). The yellow provides a good photographic background too, particularly for these dark Sminthurinus species. #Mesofauna #Collembola #Globbies

With all the dampness, lots of springtails appearing in the garden. I've lost the knack of photographing them, but got a few in focus. (L) is Sphaeridia pumilis (~0.3mm) and (R) Sminthurinus aureus (~0.5mm). #Mesofauna #Globbies #NeedMorePractice

@mesofauna I couldn't miss this opportunity Andy! Courtship behaviour in Sminthurides aquaticus. Male (the little one) and female entwine antennae and male gets lifted up. This was by our garden pond. #Staffs #Collembola #Globbies #Springtails

Last night (finally), my carefully laid-out rows of leaves on the lawn, didn't blow away. I use them as globular springtail shelters. I got some shots too. The stripey one is Sminthurinus elegans. The others are colour forms of S. aureus. #collembola #globbies #Staffs

Because I follow @Ed_P_Wildlife I know there is such a thing as a 'globular springtail', and though I have yet to find one myself, my life is SO much richer for knowing they are there! Ed posts amazing photos of these ridiculously cute little beings. Worth a follow. #globbies

Left some laurel leaves on the lawn last night. If you're lucky, you may find globular springtails on the underside the next morning! This is the only one I managed to photograph; Sminthurinus elegans. About 0.5mm long. #collembola #globbies
