#OnlineGamblingTax | RISE Mzansi , which has been actively campaigning for urgent and stricter regulation of the online gambling industry, has welcomed National Treasury's publishing of a draft national online gambling tax discussion paper for public comments.
National Treasury is considering imposing a 20% tax on online gambling , saying while the proposed tax could generate about R10 billion in additional revenue, its main purpose is to discourage pathological gambling and its ill effects.
The discussion paper is available on the National Treasury website and the public is encouraged to submit written comments via email by close of business on the 30th of January 2026.
