I have developed a (personally) approach how experimental data can be used as constraints for the #rock #modeling in GebPy.

After yesterday’s focus on mainly igneous #rocks, I‘ve started today with revising or adding models of sedimentary rocks. A new rock model in #GebPy is based on the #greywacke description of Huckenholz from 1963.

Because of Corona, I had some time to #code and started a new feature in #GebPy which is still in work.
The new feature allows the user to compare different #minerals that show a similar structure for example, here spinel group minerals. Have a nice Sunday! ☀️

It’s #WorldWomensDay and I was looking for an interesting #mineral for #GebPy that was named after a female scientist. I found Allabogdanite (Fe,Ni)2P, a rare phospide mineral, found in a #meteorite in 1994 and that was named after the Russian crystallographer Alla Bogdanova.
As promised, here are some more information about the new rock builder in #GebPy. In this example, I‘ve modeled an iron ore rock consisting hematite, magnetite and quartz. It’s possible to export the generated data. Now, it’s time for some tutorials, I guess.

I think that I can release a new feature next week, which allows the generation of synthetic rock data for user-defined mineral assemblages (database consists of more than 100 minerals).

An information for the people interested in #GebPy: based on my experiences with GUI coding for my master‘s thesis (more about it this autumn), I‘ve decided to create a GUI also for GebPy. I think that it makes GebPy much more intuitive and many aspects also easier to explain.
@TriclinicFlow That’s what I do or better said my tool, #GebPy, can do. The generated #minerals are then the input for the #synthetic #rock samples that are also generated with GebPy. Actually, the focus is still more on #geophysics, but I want to add more and more #geochemistry features.
I work actually on the incorporation of trace elements. Before the release, I want to add some new functions that simplify the calculation of some mineral properties.
I‘m always glad when I see that my modeling matches to real world samples. 😊

I created for #GebPy a #JupyterNotebook (work still in progress due to exams etc.) which generates exemplary 1.000 sandstone „samples“. The diagrams show some possible output. I will write of course an extensive tutorial in more detail soon, incl. user customizations! #geoscience
GebPy (—> Github) makes some progress again! There is now a new function available that generates artificial borehole data of a synthetic sedimentary basin.
