If you believe we must achieve Net Zero at any cost, you have to believe two things. First that there is indeed a climate emergency. Secondly, that the rest of the world is committed to the same objective and if they aren't, they will follow Britain's lead. We've been told that weather events this year are "record breaking" and that Europe's wildfires are "unprecedented". There are several problems here. If your records only began in 1890, then it's not that unlikely that these records will be broken by freak weather events. Secondly, wildfires are nothing exceptional. They're certain worse when there is poor land management due to corruption and poor regulatory enforcement, and firefighting equipment isn't up to scratch. A broke and corrupt country like Greece is bound to experience them. Not forgetting that the cause in some cases was arson. This year has been unusual weather wise. Europe has experienced severe heat waves - though not unprecedented, while temperate northern Europe has experienced heavy unseasonal rainfalls. Elsewhere record cold temperatures have been reached. None of this was predicted and only that which was convenient to the climate emergency narrative was reported by Western media. You can find credentialed experts who will say it is almost certainly the result of manmade climate change - but this is assertion, not fact. If they could prove it, they could also predict it. There just isn't an observable evidence base for the heavily marketed disaster scenario. That said, most people are not equipped to cross-examine the scientific basis for many of these claims so they will take it on trust that there is a climate emergency. What will tip the balance is the "global boiling" hyperbole. It’s risible. But whether we're in climate emergency or not, the debate about Net Zero is a separate issue. In the most basic terms, Net Zero is a transition from fossil fuels to mined minerals and metals. There is nothing in my reading of it to suggest this is greener or kinder to the planet, nor does it do much for our energy security. We know that intermittent renewable energy cannot do the job of keeping the lights on. We know that battery storage is an expensive and impractical idea. We know that we don’t have sufficient grid capacity to power an EV transition. We know that heat pumps are expensive and, in many cases, impractical. Moreover, we know all this cannot be done to the unrealistic timetables enshrined in law. But the greatest conceit is the notion that the world will follow Britain’s lead. China and India have no intention of reducing their coal and oil usage. Nobody outside is going to race over the Net Zero cliff after us. You can be forgiven for taking it on trust that global warming is real, but it takes a special kind of self-deception to believe that the entire world looks to Britain for “climate leadership”. It is at this point we know we are not dealing with rational actors. Across Europe we���re seeing a backlash against green energy and climate policies, and you’d have to be supremely “inward looking” not to notice. Whenever electorates meet the real-world consequences of Net Zero, and see the price tag, support for the agenda evaporates. But our elites are determined to push this on us while conspiring to deny us a say in the matter. This is now a religious crusade – and a greater threat to our prosperity, democracy, and security than anything we’ve faced since the collapse of the Berlin Wall. This is not merely a matter of energy bills. Our politicians have committed us to a radical reorganisation of society based on a flimsy theory, pegging its hopes on technologies which do not yet exist – and they’re going to do it to us whether we want it or not, because they believe the harm it will do to health and economic wellbeing is for the greater good – and that our sacrifice is necessary to appease the weather. Put simply, our rulers have gone mad. We must remove them before it’s too late.
