A particularly meaningful moment of the commemorations was the unveiling of a new memorial plaque at the crash site near Schoonheten. The plaque, placed near the location where Wellington Z8339 fell on 19-20 June 1942, ensures the crew’s story remains present in the landscape and memory of the region. The IPN delegation laid a wreath in tribute to the fallen airmen. The commemorations brought together an international group of participants, including: representatives of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in the Netherlands, including Colonel Janusz Sroka, Defence Attaché, local Dutch authorities and community organisations historians and civic activists, family members of the crew, military personel from Poznań representing the Mobile Air Operations Command Unit (MJDOP), continuing the traditions of No. 305 Polish Bomber Squadron “Land of Greater Poland” More than 84 years after the crash, the ceremony reaffirmed a shared Polish-Dutch commitment to remembrance, preserved through cooperation between institutions, local communities and families in both countries.
