Extreme Xenophobia and the myth of "the (Rwandan) foreigner": Death Penalty for former President Joseph Kabila based on the conspiracy theory that he is "Rwandan".
The Kabila's trial, at which death penalty is sought after by the plaintiffs and public prosecutor, is a true illustration of the extreme form of racism, tribalism and the systemic adoption of genocide ideology plaguing Congolese society.
The argument of "a suspect nationality" [nationalité douteuse], which has served as the primary tool for exclusion, persecution, targeted killings, and ethnic cleansing of the Congolese Rwandophones from Eastern Congo, represents the main root cause of the conflict opposing #GoDRC and #M23.
At the press conference following the conclusions of the trial, the plaintiffs' attorney uses extreme hate rhetoric accusing Joseph Kabila of being "Rwandan", thus not belonging to the "human race" or a "pure race", but instead to the "race" of "animals", "beasts", and "cannibals":
He declares to the press:
"The conviction of the thug Kabila has brought a remedy to the Congolese society to be saved from criminals of that race in our country, people who do things as I call them, foreign to human civilization, because DRC is a civilized state which belongs to the United Nations system, a group of states called civilized on a level of humanity. Kabila's acts in our country are foreign to humanity, and show that Kabila has an animal ferocity, a bestial one."
