When working on #goodenoughtesting, I keep three LLM tabs open: Claude, Codex, and Gemini.
I test each prompt against all three to catch where instructions break down. When they disagree, that's where I focus as I want to reliable generate tests.
Adding Amp to the mix soon.

Yesterday I talked with @onurozer about the #goodenoughtesting workshop and where to take it next.
One thing became clear: I need to better communicate what problem it solves and for which teams it works best.
Not just build more content, but explain the value more clearly.
Preparing first workshop for an in-house training session for a company about Reliable Test Case Generation with AI, part of #GoodEnoughTesting
This will be about the Test Strategy, a document that will be useful for both agentic AIs and individual contributors

> Ensure that the tests are accurate, relevant, and valuable.
In case anyone wants to learn how to review tests in a systematic way then the next edition of my #GoodEnoughTesting workshop is happening on 8th August https://t.co/EGrkeae03G
Software engineers spend at least 20% of their time reviewing code.
But many of them don't know what to focus on.
They randomly scan code changes, rather than having a structured approach.
Here is what to look for in the right priority:
1. Design Considerations. Is the code well-designed and appropriate for the system? Does it belong where it is, or should it be moved to another library/package?
2. Functionality Review. Does the code behave as the author intended? Are there any bugs that automated tests might miss?
3. Complexity. Could another developer easily understand and use this code when they come across it in the future? Is there any over-engineering or unnecessary functionality?
4. Test Quality. Tests are an integral part of the code. Ask for the unit, integration, or end-to-end tests appropriate for the change. Ensure that the tests are accurate, relevant, and valuable.
5. Naming and Documentation. Did the developer pick good names that make the code self-documenting? Are the comments clear and easy to understand?
6. Style and Consistency: Is the code following the style guide for the repo?
I walked through the key areas to focus on during code reviews in the latest issue of @EngPolymathic
If you're still chasing 100% test coverage, stop.
You're wasting time and still missing the bugs that count.
Axiom 1: You can’t test everything.
Test what breaks trust.
That’s smart testing.
#goodenoughtesting
Testing advice often fails in real projects. I follow these four testing axioms:
1. You can’t test everything.
2. Bugs can't be fully eliminated.
3. Start early.
4. Bias exists.

#GoodEnoughTesting means matching coverage to risk

Effective testing isn’t about writing more tests.
It’s about testing what matters and that means understanding risk.
Not all bugs are equal. Not all tests are worth it.

Over half the workshop is booked. Time to finalize details, review exercises, and trim content to allow more discussion.
#GoodEnoughTesting

Most devs learn RSpec or Minitest. But not what testing actually means.
Testing isn’t just writing tests. It is modeling risk, defining coverage, and thinking critically.
That’s why I built #GoodEnoughTesting
Just refactored the 404 and 500 pages of #GoodEnoughTesting website to be a bit more in line with the topic :)

I don't want to say that this post comes at a right time, but this is why I created #GoodEnoughTesting workshop.
I think we more than ever need - as a developers - to know what good enough testing is.
AI can write your tests, but are they actually useful?
Some are likely not useful and some are probably wrong.
You need to closely review all AI generated code, especially tests as those become your safety net in the future.

Playing a bit this weekend with Claude Code and various ways to prompt it to generate #goodenoughtesting that I can review before it starts to write wall of test cases. PS: I work on a new and improved @goodenoughtests workshop. Will announce it soon!

There are still some few places available for the #GoodEnoughTesting workshop happening on Thursday 23 January.

Earlier this week, I finally received "Professional Rails Testing - Tools and Principles" by @JasonSwett from Amazon. I can't wait for the winter vacation to have time to dive into it.
I skimmed it and recommended it to participants of my #GoodEnoughTesting workshop yesterday!

#GoodEnoughTesting #Applied #TestCase #Design
I like to apply when possible the test design techniques on real code. Here I reviewed a bit of code from the open source Rails app from @zammadhq and applied a systematic process to extract test cases:

There are still discounts available for #GoodEnoughTesting Workshops for December and January sessions.
This weekend is your opportunity to enhance your testing skills without breaking the bank.

@gsurfer_saas @avo_hq You are welcome. I am using Avo in a couple of projects including @shortrubynews and #GoodEnoughTesting and I could not be more happier.
I also know @adrianthedev and I am 100% confident he drives the project in the right direction
It worked out of the box: just bundle add, run install, and deploy.
I have a work-in-progress booklet already at https://t.co/IIo6y5TI1E
I have to do some tweaking, but I'm happy with how the whole process worked.
