Questions, Doubts, Lack of Accountability Undermine Coutts Fundraising.
Hello All. Just arrived home from covering the Grus Hearing in Ottawa to find many public comments and questions about the funds previously raised to benefit the four Coutts accused.
A great Canadian, @Jeremy_MacKenzi, is not the first person to raise questions but his public reach and following mean that this issue can no longer wait.
I had earlier started to write a report summarizing my investigation, observations, and recommendations about Coutts fundraising - but held off for a month until the 'envelope' and a bail hearing could be resolved.
I didn't want my report to interfere with these important court events, however now that the public discussion has overtaken my desire to stay silent for a few more weeks - I will publish my report on, or before, next weekend Sunday, November 12th.
The title of my report is...
Questions, Doubts, Lack of Accountability Undermine Coutts Fundraising.
In short...
Your money didn't go where you thought it did - or where some of the family members thought it would or should go. Current accounting records are (to be polite) 'incomplete' and probably incapable of being audited with any confidence.
Public Confidence can, however, be quickly restored through a process that has proven successful in many similar situations where people of good intent have made mistakes or been overwhelmed by the success of their efforts.
I look forward to more comments and discussions about the situation, now and after people read my report.
The intent and goal of my report is to precipitate the immediate establishment of a COMPLETELY NEW FUNDRAISING SYSTEM AND AGREEMENT between the four Coutts accused and their families - that justly benefits each, and maintains public confidence.
The usual solution for these situations is a 'Clean Start' going forward, combined with a professional independent audit of past fundraising.
More to come soon, after I take a few days to get organized and re-settled from my Ottawa trip.
