Founded c.1200 #TinternAbbey was a Cistercian abbey & like #GreatConnell Priory in #Newbridge (founded c.1202 as an Augustinian Priory) had strong Welsh connections. Far more of Tintern survives than Great Connell. The nearby #Colclough Walled garden is also well worth a visit

Nice article here on the founding of the #Curragh cemetery which still stands on the @curragh_the The cemetery at #GreatConnell #ConnellMórCross still exists although it has been closed for many years & is not maintained to the excellent standards of this Military cemetary.

1869 and a site is selected by the British War Department for a new cemetery on The Curragh. The cemetery will cater for the soldiers and their families stationed on the Curragh Camp. Hundreds of burials will take place there over the next 53 years. https://t.co/9pNxrI5MiZ

#Localhistory Part of the ruins of the #GreatConnell Priory founded 1202 & surrendered in 1541 by the then (& last) Prior Robert Wellesley (Bishop of Kildare). Oone of the last monasteries subjected to Henry VIII’s Dissolution (Suppression) of Monasteries between 1536 and 1541.

The contractors & employees from #Arkil & #CMPRoadPlaning are working through the nighs this week to re-surface #GreatConnell Rd. in #Newbridge Understand the shredded (former) road surface materials are #reused in later projects! Nice job @KildareCoCo
