Amazing stuff @andrewidy! 🙏 for posting! FYI for the uninitiated. Greek speakers in southern #Italy are referred to as the #Griko. The #language they speak is also known as Griko or #Grecanic. They primarily reside in the regions of #Apulia (specifically in the #Salento area) & #Calabria.
The Griko #language & #culture have survived since ancient times (Magna Graecia) despite being surrounded by the dominant Italian culture. It’s a unique blend of ancient Greek & Italian elements. And as you point out, many phonological similarities with #Cypriot Greek dialect!
