Getting good at life takes a lot of experience. Getting a lot of experience requires making a lot of mistakes. The moment you think you're above the lesson and the process, a timer starts on your implosion. I've learned, painfully and repeatedly, what happens when your pride exceeds your position in the universe. To counter feelings of superiority that may arise, I practice humility and gratitude. Because the universe, in the words of the Human League, "put you where you are now, and it can put you back down too."

I have been slowly getting rid of everything plastic in our home and replacing it with natural materials like glass, wood, cotton, etc. Not just because of the health benefits, but because of aesthetics. For example, seeing glass jars lined up in the cabinet is pleasant, whereas seeing plastic containers stacked up is unpleasant. Similarly, cotton blinds or wooden shades are beautiful to look at, whereas plastic shades are just plain ugly. This also has forced me to be more thoughtful about what I buy because natural materials are more expensive than plastic ones. And they last longer, so I have to be sure I like it before buying it.
