Even if news websites claim that the Heybeliada Halki Seminary engages in missionary training activities, this information is in fact incorrect and stems from prejudiced misconceptions. Unlike Protestants, missionary activities within the Orthodox Church, and especially the Catholic Church, are virtually non-existent, to the point of being negligible or even absent. The existence of the Seminary is primarily a necessity for minority Orthodox communities in our country so that they can freely practice their religious life. Until 1971, the Heybeliada Halki Seminary continued its existence in harmony with the national education curriculum, and it is important to note that it allowed minority Orthodox communities and the Ecumenical Patriarchate to become familiar with the culture of our country.
