A Syrian refugee residing in Grimes, Iowa, put on the waterworks for cameras on Oct. 1 after changes regarding Medicaid benefits were rolled out which have removed non-permanent residents from the federally funded program. Shanoof Albaker fled Syria and first settled down in Turkey, which is a country welcoming to Syrian refugees. But then she and her husband decided they wanted to pack their bags and come to the United States. Why America? Well, in her own words, she and her husband were looking for a certain “quality of life.” That “quality of life” appears to be free stuff like public assistance, which Albaker admitted that the benefits tap getting cut off is “devastating.” Medicaid was paying for this woman to get home health visits, medications, and even an interpreter. Crying in front of the news cameras, Albaker said, “The nurse who comes to my house to do home health visits, she will not visit me anymore. And my doctor's appointments are going to be stopped.” Meanwhile, countless American citizens don’t get the luxury of free home health visits, but their taxes were footing the bill for ‘refugees’ who see America as a free meal ticket. The Refugee Alliance of Central Iowa put the state total at about 973 people impacted by the Medicaid changes, whereas wellness coordinator Leslie Olson estimated the impact closer to 2,000 people. Albaker claimed she and her husband are trying to obtain permanent resident status, a.k.a. green cards, but complained that the country of Syria is on a restricted list. Syria is on a restricted list for good reasons, namely that the country is a hotbed of terr*rists and how the habitually instable government is lacking in its ability to screen purported 'refugees' and share information with the United States.
