I am delighted to support Rep. Crawford’s #HB334, the Sickle Cell Disease Protection Act.
Sickle cell has historically been under-treated, under-researched, and under-resourced. HB334 would help ensure Georgia annually re-evaluates treatments and therapies for our SCD patients.
The panic has set in at the #IHSA offices, as #HB334 was approved by the elementary and secondary education committee on Wednesday.
It has a LONG way to go still, and this is no surprise that it made it out of committee. There is a large group of parents forming throughout the state that will be meeting with state leaders to encourage the passing of the bill.
The IHSA is trying to spin its communication with schools saying its interference by state government. They want to retain the ability to self-govern transfer eligibility rules.
This is where the IHSA central office is tone deaf and has been - actually very arrogant. As I noted yesterday, that office doesn’t get it. This is all about power, not about what is best for kids and families.
I’ve been telling you for years and more recently that each time the IHSA got pulled into court and was getting its ass kicked more and more by judges that this wasn’t going to end up pretty.
The court system recently does not agree with what the IHSA has been doing to kids and families. It’s very, very clear. All you have to do is sit and listen, and I have to most cases in recent years.
Every judge is saying the same thing, and major media has been reporting it. You don’t think local leaders are paying attention? You don’t think that maybe the IHSA pissed off the wrong family finally, and they picked up the phone and made an influential call?

For low income people, especially those who are transient, government issued IDs are extremely difficult to procure with a frequent catch-22- you cannot get an ID without an address, you cannot procure housing without an ID and, to make matters worse, IDs are expensive. #HB334
HB 334 is being heard in the Senate Elections Committee.
Strict photo ID requirements outlined in #HB334 are unconstitutional and burden more than 200,000 valid Missouri voters who do not have a current state-issued photo ID.
