The DFL had hoped they could put the open seat of #HD05B in play again in cycle considering they came relatively close in 2018 with an incumbent. Biden though only improved over Clinton by 0.2. He did improve by 5 points over Clinton in Judy Garland's birthplace of Grand Rapids.

In 2012, the district was pretty solidly for banning same sex marriage, but rejected voter id by nearly 10 points. This gap between the two amendments was indicative of the types of shifts seen going into 2016 when Trump flipped districts like #HD05B.

Otto & Swanson performed quite well in 2014 in #HD05B which make Blaha & Ellison's 2018 performances look fairly weak though their performances were pretty much on par there considering the rest of the DFL slate compared to statewide margins.

Klobuchar's narrow 2018 margin in #HD05B might be a sign for the DFL that while they may be able to keep GOP candidate Igo's margin in the single digits, flipping the district may prove to be too difficult.

#HD05B is the redder half of #SD05 which will be a DFL target of some sort this cycle, but with two cannibus candidates on the ballot this cycle, the DFL's chances there are a bit more complicated despite some good candidate recruitment in Bemidji Mayor Rita Albrecht.

The last GOP nominee in #MN08 to lose #HD05B was Cravaack who only two years prior had unseated political giant Jim Oberstar. It flipped to Mills in 2014 and has continued to move right since in each cycle.

#HD05B in northern Minnesota is the home the the Judy Garland Museum as well as an open #MNLeg race this fall that while likely to stay in the GOP's hands, could be at least somewhat competitive this fall. Both the GOP & DFL candidates here are from Grand Rapids. #MNPol

In 2016, the GOP flipped both #HD05A and #HD05B. In 2018, the DFL flipped back A, and came closer in B than they did in 2016 (when there was a green party candidate running).
