#PrisonStorm Analysis: Today's reality of #HMPFiveWells is in sharp contrast to the PR storyline propagated by HMPPS and others during the planning and construction.

The 'Titan Prisons' programme was dubbed "a gigantic mistake" by @PRTuk in August 2008.
#HMPFiveWells among country's worst #prisons.

Utterly lamentable.
The state of the prisons in England Wales. Worsening by the day.
Even when millions of pounds of public money is poured into new builds like #HMPFiveWells those running the system don't really know or seem to give a damn.
HMP Five Wells: 0f 750 officers recruited only 272 remained,‘several’ dismissed or arrested for corruption related activity, 1/3 prisoners testing +ve for drugs, all aspects of education ‘inadequate’, insufficient work. Not bad for £250m, let’s build more. https://t.co/2izCoQrnrW

"Former staff say "something is brewing" at HMP Five Wells"
But is anyone in HMPPS listening?
Or in the least bit bothered?

👏🏼👏🏼to #HMPFiveWells whistle blowers
You may not be aware but HMP officers are taking a big risk blowing the whistle because they have to sign the Official Secrets Act

@NotThatBigIan Remind me - other than the whistleblowers who on this report show they have found the gumption to speak out - how many 'hidden heros' work inside Five Wells?

#HMPFiveWells A modern flagship prison. 38 acres, £250M to build, state of the art security
On the strength of this report today by @JasonFarrellSky the public will conclude taxpayers money is utterly wasted on the contract with operators @G4S which is out its depth.

@UKLabour @YvetteCooperMP So #HMPFiveWells Prison guards have blown the whistle on life inside the state-of-the-art super-prison run by security firm G4S. They’re short-staffed, too many inexperienced staff, under-equipped and have a culture that is allowing prisoners to run riot. Anyone seen #Braverman?

No room for any complacency, or for brushing off fixable problems simply as "...considerable challenges that come with opening a new prison", its clear the operators G4S need to do a lot better with #HMPFiveWells.

Disregard all the window dressing, the #HMPFiveWells £253m 'super prison' has been criticised by @_Imbs_ for a string of issues in its first year. Just teething trouble? More likely than not the shape of things to come.

This looks to be less a case of NIMBY-ism and more about growing public realisation that the siting of a mega prison in Finchingfield, Wethersfield - or anywhere else for that matter - is wholly unneccessary.

It was a pleasure to visit a local foodbank (Redeem Funds) this afternoon. It was fantastic to see their set up and to chat about the foodbank sustainability and their community outreach work.
We are very proud to send them regular donations.

Interested in the idea of teaching within a prison, but unsure how comfortable you would feel in that environment?
Why not come along to an Open Event at HMP Five Wells to see for yourself.

#HMPFiveWells prison cost £253m and will cater for 1,680 prisoners.
A new £253m prison will aim to ensure inmates "lead productive lives" when they are released, its governor John McLaughlin has said.
Time will tell...

Is the new prison programme an example of an archaic 'build-it-and-they-will-come' mentality?
Why are we proud about building more prisons when the ones we have are an abject failure?
Where's the system thinking in justice?
Where?
