Today #HTDSRecommends the #AvalonProject from #YaleUniversity. Their database contains so many transcriptions of many documents from all throughout history, like Madison's studious notes about the Constitutional Convention.

#HTDSRecommends #WilliamMcKinley by Robert W. Merry. McKinley is one of the lesser-known presidents, but he definitely left his mark on the politics of the time. This book does a great job of helping readers understand him and his legacy.

#HTDSRecommends The Perils of Peace for reading about the struggles that the fledgling republic faced after the fighting had ceased. Getting the Treaty of Paris signed was no minor feat and the ambassadors had their work cut out for them.

#HTDSRecommends that you read this book about the burning of Washington during the War of 1812. It is excellently written and discusses the events leading up to the invasion of Washington as well as what was going on in surrounding areas at the time to put it all in perspective.

The #USSConstitution is such an iconic part of US Naval history so #HTDSRecommends this book. It tells the story of #OldIronsides from its beginning to its end and was very useful for the research of our #WarOf1812 episodes (#HTDS episodes 23 - 26).

#HTDSRecommends Stanton: Lincoln's War Secretary for an excellently researched look at a very overlooked, yet significant, person in American History. Serving as Lincoln's "Mars", Stanton was the Secretary of War during the Civil War and Johnson's nemesis during Reconstruction.

Benedict Arnold's story is such a well-known, and yet obscure, part of American history, and this book helps put his story in context with Washington and discusses their relationship.

#HTDSRecommends this book to help you learn a bit more about #MartinVanBuren and his effect on the politics of the day. He seemed to know how to navigate what some see as a big mess and his influence, according to Silbey, helped shape popular politics and political culture.

#HTDSRecommends "We Shall Meet Again" by JoAnna M. McDonald. Many people have heard the name of this battle, but this book helps give that depth that we love here at #HTDS.

Primary sources are an excellent resource. This journal from Frank Keeler gave a lot of great insights into the landing of the Marines at Guantanamo Bay. Having that first-hand account was eye-opening, and helped us write a more detailed description of the event.

Today's #HTDSRecommends is another website, specifically the American Battlefield Trust (https://t.co/Q2uFZAa1Kn).
This website has information about battlegrounds from the Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Civil War, including documents to shine the light on these events.

We've done an #HTDSRecommends on them before, but we love the Library of Congress' Chronicling America with newspaper clippings that are searchable. It has proved invaluable in so many of the recent episodes and will continue to be a valuable resource.

#HTDSRecommends Rebel Yell by S. C. Gwynne for anyone who is interested in learning more about Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson. He was a talented general, a man with a few odd beliefs about how the body works, and very little sense of humor. And this book helped capture that image.
