Even when we are unable to reform an organization from within, continued membership at least provides us with a platform to safeguard our national 🇪🇷interests. Even though, @IGADsecretariat is the weakest regional economic grouping.
Remaining engaged would allow us to counter narratives, oppose hostile initiatives, & prevent the organization from being used as a launchpad for sanctions or other adverse actions.
As @IGADsecretariat statement illustrates that, #Eritrea had no active participation in almost all #IGADs meetings, conferences, discussions , & other regional matters since it has rejoined to IGAD in 2023. This implies, #Eritrea hasn't interest in direct negotiations & contributions to solve our collective regional issues.
Nevertheless, the strategic implications of withdrawing—both in the short & long term—deserve careful reflection. @hawelti
