Heat Relief for Visitors — Misting Fans Installed at Durga Kund Temple #Varanasi! As part of the Varanasi Heat Action Plan, Mahila Housing Trust (MHT), with support from the Durga Mata Temple Trust, has implemented a high-pressure misting system at the historic Durga Kund Temple — a revered site frequented by a large number of visitors. The system uses RO-purified water, dispersed through 60 nozzles, including 20 nozzles attached to 4 strategically placed misting fans across the temple’s four wings, and an additional 40 nozzles installed throughout the premises. This setup has successfully reduced temperatures by up to 5°C, especially within the main prayer hall and temple courtyard, offering much-needed cooling relief from the extreme heat. Engineered with sustainability in mind, high-TDS water from the RO system is repurposed for temple cleaning, and leftover water is returned to storage tanks for reuse — ensuring minimal water waste. Both visitors and temple priests have appreciated the innovation, noting how it has made visit more comfortable and safer, especially during peak heat hours. This initiative is part of the #VaranasiHeatActionPlan, developed collaboratively by the @nagarnigamvns , MHT, @NRDC_India , @IIPHG1 , and the Department of Medical Health and Family Welfare, to protect vulnerable communities from rising temperatures. #ClimateResilience #HeatActionPlan #Varanasi #DurgaKund #MHTImpact #UrbanCooling #SustainableSolutions #WomenLeadClimateAction #MistingFan #HeatActionDay #HAD2025 #HeatAction
