As we step into yet another year, we continue to advocate for an age-friendly India. The government has been increasing its focus on undertaking measures to improve quality of life for our elders and we hope with the upcoming #UnionBudget we can further build on an enabling society for our elders.
HelpAge India’s recommendations this year emphasize on strengthening long-term care systems, ensuring financial protection and social security for seniors, promoting preventive healthcare, and enabling safe digital inclusion.
Special attention needs to be given to the needs of #olderwomen, the #OldestOld and those living alone, who are the most vulnerable and are often the last in line.
Our roadmap calls for co-ordinated #nationalaction to create supportive systems that recognise older persons as a priority group and respond to the realities of India’s rapidly #ageing population.

CATARACT EYE SURGERIES: HelpAge partners with hospitals to conduct free cataract surgeries, restoring eyesight to thousands of poor elderly each year.
HEALTH CAMPS & Telemedicine: Organizes regular health check-ups and digital consultations for senior citizens.
ELDER RIGHTS AND ADVOCACY
Advocated strongly for the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007.
Works to combat elder abuse through awareness campaigns like “Stand by Me” and Elder Helplines (1800-180-1253).
LIVELIHOOD AND FINANCIAL SECURITY -Runs income-generation programs for rural elders and “Elder Self-Help Groups (ESHGs)” enabling financial independence and dignity.
Supports micro-enterprises and skill training among older persons, especially widows and marginalized groups.
DIGITAL LITERACY AND EMPOWERMENT
Conducts Digital Literacy Workshops to help elders use smartphones, ATMs, UPI, and social media safely.
Disaster Relief and Humanitarian Aid
Provides special assistance to elderly victims during natural disasters and pandemics, such as distributing rations, medicines, and hygiene kits.
Intergenerational Bonding
Promotes youth engagement through “Student Action for Value Education (SAVE)”—a school-based program sensitizing children about aging and empathy.
AGE CARE AND OLD AGE HOMES
Operates Day Care Centres and Support for Old Age Homes, offering companionship, recreation, and medical support.
