"The Eye Like a Strange Balloon"
(c.1882) by Odilon Redon is a surreal charcoal vision-a floating eye carrying figures across a dreamscape. Symbolist art at its most eerie and poetic.

"Falling Angel" (1945) by Hans Bellmer
is a surreal, unsettling portrayal of a broken figure in freefall - a haunting metaphor for post-war Europe's collapse and inner human trauma.

Our word of the day is ‘capriccio’ – an architectural fantasy composed of both real and fictional components. This drawing by 18th c. architect and antiquarian Giovanni Battista Piranesi is a great example and can be enjoyed in our #HiddenMasterpieces exhibition, open today! 🎉
