The 2E DMG offers an elegant critical hit system. One method is to simply have each nat 20 result in one additional attack and a nat 1 to forfeit the following attack. A fun variable without the embarrassing or lethal idiocy that often results from fumbling in other systems. #DnD

72" Human Fighter in front rank, thief with bow in the back of the party.
Penalties: no to F vs rat, -10 vs Orc, -7 vs Ogre, -4 vs 12' giant.
If on rear flank, -4, -3, -2, -1.

Firing at Size M in melee with party Size S 50% covered -4 or 75% = -7. Size M vs M, 90% -10. SZ L enemy vs M 25% -2
Flank of enemy missile fire, treat as concealed: -1 to -4
