Official MSP Statement on the story we've been talking about: Police Pursuit in Yarmouth 6 February 2026 "At approximately 12:45 a.m. this morning (Friday), State Police pursued a gray Audi sedan that failed to stop on Route 6 East at Exit 68 in Barnstable. In an attempt to flee police, the operator reached speeds of more than 100 MPH. Troopers terminated the pursuit when the operator exited the highway in Yarmouth. A short time later, Yarmouth Police located the vehicle at the base of a Route 6 exit ramp and detained the operator for Troopers to assume custody. During their transport to the Barracks for booking, the operator alleged that State and Local Police sexually assaulted them during their encounter. The Massachusetts State Police does not tolerate any form of sexual abuse or harassment towards any detainee. For this reason, the State Police have initiated an investigation of these allegations led by the Cape & Island State Police Detective Unit using the protocols outlined in its DET-07 Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Policy. For their actions, State Police charged the operator with several offenses, including failure to stop, OUI (liquor), unregistered motor vehicle, and other moving violations. Out of respect for the sensitivity of the ongoing PREA investigation, the State Police will not disclose the identity of the operator at this time."
