Interesting perspective on what is 'meaningful' to teachers. Top-down interventions sometimes try to create something meaningful for teachers, but we have to be trusted to make meaning of/for our own contexts. #ipdaire @TeachingCouncil #cosan
Croke park hours would be so much more palatable if they were meaningful meetings like below...imagine 2 hours to sit with other LC teachers and discuss scenes from Hamlet, or Heaney's poetry and share how we teach or re analysis of texts!
I wish I had come across this sooner - 'National Improvement Framework Interactive Evidence Report' Some interesting data related to the key drivers: https://t.co/9Zz9XqDn5J #ScotEdChat #EdDGla
@ConzieSays @carchermarino @RachaelCByrne Thanks for joining us, Conor! We look forward to continuing our #ProfessionalLearning with you #IPDAire
Who would thought that a twitter chat would have been so inspiring and encouraging? @ipdaIreland 'slow chat' was, from my own perspective, a knock-out success! Thanks to @carchermarino and @RachaelCByrne for their excellent facilitation, and also to all who participated #IPDAire
It's been such a pleasure to facilitate the #IPDAire slow chat this weekend alongside @carchermarino Great opportunity to reflect on practice and engage with a range of individuals passionate about professional learning. Looking forward to the next @ipdaIreland event!
@fiona_king_ @carchermarino @RachaelCByrne @ipdaIreland I’ll second that - thank you for the creative professional conversation #IPDAire
@ipdaIreland A great platform for online discussions about #ProfessionalLearning
Thanks for facilitating! #IPDAire
And that, dear colleagues, concludes our #SlowChat for this weekend. We have thoroughly enjoyed the debate, engagement and the participation in this creative form of #ProfessionalLearning. Please feel free to continue to engage with #IPDAire
Fears of going against status quo, rigid systems+curricula, lack of flexibility, confidence and consensus in values and terminology of creativity all emerging as challenges to creativity in PL @Mrs_A_Gallagher @lorrkee @ConzieSays @carchermarino @RachaelCByrne @nnaeiluj8 #ipdaire
@ConzieSays @ipdaIreland Maybe be a model of it- share in any way you can with your colleagues - find your tribe among staff- interact in any way you can- I think that you don’t need a title to lead #ipdaire
@ipdaIreland Q4 Re-reading the whole slow chat. I wonder if we all mean the same thing when we use the word ‘creativity’? For me in PL it’s not so much about ‘creative’ activities, it’s more about encouraging creative approaches...looking at practice, at curriculum, with new eyes... #ipdaire
@ipdaIreland Here's a sub question as we finish up: how can those not in leadership positions drive or encourage a spirit of professional learning? #IPDAire
@ipdaIreland The perceived lack of creativity by teachers, a lack of confidence in delivering typically considered creative subjects-Art, Drama, Music, constraints of time, fear of failure, ideal of a quick-fix. We encourage children to have a go, teachers need to embrace change too #ipdaire
@ipdaIreland @ORoriginalred Yes, I have have found such an approach to be quite useful and enjoyable in the context of music education but have found it can also transfer to other areas if there is an openness and flexibility on the part of the facilitator and learners! #IPDAire
@ipdaIreland @carchermarino Well, you break the mould but on your own conditions. You invest in yourself be it with time or money. But I think you have to believe in yourself. And that can be a battle. In this case its those who support you, family and friends, who mentor you. That's my experience #ipdaire
@ConzieSays @carchermarino Q4 #IPDAire Thanks for clarifying, Conor. This makes sense- if we are bound by rigidity and inflexibility, creativity can be dampened, especially if we are in a position of insecurity regarding hours- tow the line or break the mould?
@ORoriginalred @ipdaIreland Definitely worthwhile to consider+reflect on any such challenges moving forward! Though, I wonder if adding creativity into the mix might help play a role in encouraging engagement in PL?Personally, I really enjoy participating in PL that allows for+encourages creativity #IPDAire
@ipdaIreland @carchermarino What I suppose I was alluding to was people on hourly/temporary contracts (or zero hour). Or if a curriculum is so rigid it doesn't really allow for much innovation. That's just two that I've experienced #ipdaire maybe these examples aren't appropriate.
@carchermarino @ipdaIreland Has it been mentioned or asked whether teachers are allowed to be creative, in the sense that there is flexiblity to fit it in? #IPDAire
