A turning point in #UchidaTomu's career, Theater of Life: Youth Version (1936) marked him as a major director. The film is a ruin, but gives glimpses of the masterpiece it might have been. See my review at #IUTAS. #TomuUchida #JapaneseCinema #Yakuza https://t.co/fut5Eaegy8

When #UchidaTomu, one of the most prominent "social filmmakers" of the prewar era, got back to Japan from China after the war, did he become a *sellout*? Read my post on the #IUTAS website to find out my own view. #TomuUchida #JapaneseCinema #auteur https://t.co/jpFpVkm3nh
