In 2001, AMANDA's initial results were published, including a map showing the origins of 263 high-energy neutrinos in the sky. It was βa proof of concept showing that we can build a neutrino telescope in ice.β

In November of 1999, IceCube got one step closer to reality as the fledgling IceCube Collaboration submitted their proposal to @NSF. (Meanwhile, the future IceCube Laboratory was still a dorm at the South Pole!)
