#IceMonitoring workshop preview💡 tracking Iceberg A-76 in Antarctica.
Did you know that in 2021 Iceberg A-76 was the largest iceberg in the world? 🌍Calved from the Ronne Ice Shelf in the Weddell Sea, its area covered 4160 km2, according to the @usnatice
🔎WEkEO tools allow you to analyze the trajectory of icebergs and understand the factors involved in this process.
📅Don't miss the two-day online workshop on 8 & 10 September! You will be able to attend live demonstrations to learn how to navigate Jupyter Notebooks, QGIS and R, but also to participate to Q&A sessions with experts from @EUEnvironment @mercatorocean @eumetsat and more

#IceMonitoring workshop preview💡How can WEkEO help monitor the consequences of permafrost thawing on the environment? 🧊
🌡️Recently, permafrost has been facing increasing levels of thawing due to rising temperatures. Permafrost thawing is particularly dangerous due to the release of methane and other greenhouse gases which are currently stored in the soil, that lead to further rise in temperatures and accelerates climate change processes.
🛰️Satellite Earth Observation sensors can detect surface features of permafrost areas and monitor signs of melting ice through periodic detection of changes in surface temperature.
📅Join us on 8 & 10 September to learn how to use #Copernicus data to research correlations between surface temperature and permafrost thawing.

#IceMonitoring workshop preview💡Blatten Glacier Collapse
On May 28, 2025, the Swiss village of Blatten was affected by the collapse of the Birch Glacier, causing millions of tons of ice, rock and mud to fall towards the village. The natural dam created by the accumulation poses a serious flood risk to the valley downstream. @CopernicusEU data can be used to monitor the damages of the melted snow and newly formed lake as well as its impact on the covered alpine vegetation🌲
WEkEO supports early detection and tracking of climate change and its consequences on glaciers. 📅Join us on 8 & 10 September to learn how to navigate WEkEO tools, such as Jupyter Notebooks, QGIS and R. Don't miss the opportunity to participate to Q&A sessions with experts from @EUEnvironment @MercatorOcean @eumetsat and more.
