Jung Yonghwa of #CNBLUE, who burst onto the scene like a comet with #ImALoner, is an all-around entertainer who fills the stage with his self-written songs and has conquered both acting and variety shows.
But his most dazzling moments are, of course, when he is on stage.

Q. I’m a fraud character?
JYH: Yes. I’m a fraud character. (someone whose abilities are unrealistically strong, as if unfairly good at everything.)

JYH: Ah, I think I’m not very good at memorizing things.

JYH: Messing up the college entrance exam?
Q. When I’m happiest?
JYH: When I’m doing a concert.

Jung Yonghwa’s 3rd mini album, timed to his 10th solo debut anniversary!
It features sophisticated melodies and lyrical lyrics that leave an impression.
He wrote every track on the album, including the title song, and personally oversaw the album’s concept and music video, imbuing them with his own color.
From CNBLUE songs to solo tracks, since he writes most of his own songs, he also takes the lead in the recording process.
A singer who shines brightest on stage! The time he’s happiest is, indeed, when performing in concerts.
“At 37, how long can I do a concert? Right now, I do about 3 to 3 and a half hours, but honestly, if I had enough songs, I think I could keep going endlessly.”
A master of push-and-pull who knows how to enjoy interacting with the audience!
“Since I was young, I’ve been good at reading the room, at sensing whether someone’s entertained or not. I don’t want to give people even a moment to feel bored”
The so-called “handsome guy at the ski resort” photo changed his fate.
He received love calls from agencies, but at the time, he had neither the dream of entering show business nor the expectation that he would pass an audition if he tried.
Then, while visiting Seoul, he tried an audition just for fun.
“Several people were singing this one song, and when I listened, they weren’t as good as I expected. Everyone was singing much worse than I thought, so I thought, ‘Huh? I might be the best one here.’” (Seoul people aren’t all that?) “They’re not all that. I can do this. The moment I walked out, I thought, ‘This is it. I’ve 100% got it.’”
Sure enough, he was informed that he had passed, but his mindset hadn’t yet changed.
“(So why did you ultimately decide not to do it then?) Well, I messed up my college entrance exam. I really wanted to go to Seoul, felt I should retake the exam, but didn’t want to. Then I thought, ‘Should I try being a trainee? Singing is just so much fun…’”
And so began his connection with the public.
He built courage through street performances, gained recognition as an actor, and quietly filled two years of preparation.
Their debut song I’m A Loner reached #1 just 15 days after release, marking the start of CNBLUE’s fierce rise as a skilled idol band.
It’s already been 15 years since debut!
Even while juggling a breathless schedule of band, solo, and acting activities, there’s one principle he always keeps in his heart.
“Keep what you say. Whatever I say out loud, I must absolutely keep it. ‘Keep promises’ is the biggest thing for me.”

Although he is currently focusing on solo activities, his roots lie in a band, he is the leader of #CNBLUE, which immediately rose to the ranks of the most popular groups with their debut song #ImALoner.
It has already been 16 years since he began his career in the entertainment industry. As someone who writes and composes many songs, is there a special way he gains inspiration?
“There are times when a phrase I’ve often used suddenly feels new. Ah, this is a revelation from God,” he said, explaining that sometimes inspiration comes with that kind of feeling.
The ‘handsome ski slope photo’ that changed his fate, love calls from agencies followed
Even before debut, what made Jung Yonghwa famous was a single photo, the so-called “handsome ski slope photo.” After his image spread online, entertainment agencies sent love calls one after another.
However, living in Busan, Jung Yonghwa thought that being a celebrity was something only special people did. He even believed, “People in Seoul receive different training (to become celebrities),” and considered it a world far removed from himself. Just when it seemed like the fame from that one photo might pass as a fleeting moment, he received an audition opportunity during a visit to Seoul. Feeling certain, “This is 100% going to work,” he indeed passed the audition, just as he had expected.
However, he didn’t immediately become a trainee. During a period when he was struggling over his future after failing the college entrance exam, he became interested in being a trainee and began full-scale training, because he found singing fun. After deciding to become an entertainer, he steadily built up experience in acting and singing over the course of two years.
With that preparation, he stood before the public, and it took just 15 days from debuting with CNBLUE to winning 1st place on a music program with I’m A Loner. In short, it was a whirlwind breakthrough for the rookie band CNBLUE. From then on, he stood out not only in music but also in acting and variety shows, and continued to establish his own color through consistent solo albums.
