Gold is everywhere these days, with all kinds of numbers being thrown around.
But half truths mislead more than total lies!
Adding the wide angle lens to understand whether or not gold is all that it is touted to be.

Does Gold provide better inflation protection than US Equities?
Gold is the flavor of the season and phrases like 'inflation protection' and 'safe haven' have come back into vogue.
But what does the data show?
Data since 1950 shows that when adjusted for inflation (real terms), gold has experienced a much steeper maximum drawdown (nearly 82%) compared to US equities (around 64%).
Even more compelling, the US equities real return index exhibits a generally upward trend, while gold's real return index has seen significant swings.
Key takeaway: While gold is often viewed as a strategic safe haven, equities have provided more consistent inflation-adjusted returns over the long term. Thus, gold's role as a inflation hedge or a safe haven may be more tactical in nature.
